David C. Williams 14K flute, #60
French model, 14K gold with gold rings, posts and ribs. The mechanism is sterling silver. Low B-foot with Gizmo and D# roller, C# trill key, 14k gold headjoint with Pt. riser and wings. A=442.
This 'like new' instrument was made in 2003 and the owner, loath to part with it, has chosen to play a closed hole Williams instead. The many innovations from the Williams Co. have raised flute making to another level. Here the extended size of the C key allows the left hand to rest naturally over the beautifully designed mechanism which has innovative design in both the stems and key cups. Additionally, the extended lever on the G# in combination with the off-set G, the D# roller add to the comfortable handling of the flute, as do the Schmidt gold pads. The headjoint has a platinum riser and wings that add to the ease of playing and give the flute the unmistakable ease in the Williams sound. The feel of the flute is extremely natural (in ones hands) and so is the sound it produces.
Williams #60 has a sumptuous, focused quality that is easily produced, clear and bell like in nature. The headjoint provides ample possibilities for a variety of color, projection, balance of core, and spinning overtones in the vibrato.
