Verne Q. Powell #4717
Verne Q. Powell #4717, . 018 Sterling silver tubing, extruded tone holes, open hole, in-line G, lower G soldered insert, B-foot with gizmo, A=440, Cooper Scale, Straubinger pads, 19.5 gold crown and original silver crown.
Powell #4717 was handmade in 1976. The original owner has meticulously cared for the instrument and had it overhauled in 2005 and as a result it is in like-new condition. The flute has a fluid legato and a roundness in the tone possibly due to the rolled tone holes, constructed this way according to the request of the owner. The core is strong and evident though compact in nature. The headjoint has been fitted with a 9.5K crown that to our ears makes for a more pointed articulation and slightly more robust body to the sound. With the added lower G insert, the high E's are effortless and clear. The headjoint has good octave intonation and offers little resistance in the forte dynamic range.
