Verne Q. Powell Flute #433 SOLD
Verne Q. Powell Flute #433, Silver tube and keys. Pitched at A=440, French style cups, in-line G, D# roller, B foot, soldered tone holes. Headjoint is silver tube with 14k lip plate and riser; with additional silver Powell headjoint.
Built in 1941, the beguiling, Classic sound of Powell #433 has a concentrated core, warmth, power, and a direct quality of projection. An exquisitely smooth connection between the octaves allows one to feel that it simply floats up to the third register, effortlessly. The rich timbres give a breadth to the sound that would give the ability to blend well in a flute section, or provide for a soloists presence and charisma.
There are some basic similarities to the two headjoints, which allows for comfortable sw itching back and forth for a broader palette of colors. The major difference is the dark warmth provided by the original headjoint (with the gold lip plate and riser). Both headjoints have comfortable, rapid articulation and an equally good display of overtones. The all-silver head has a bit more of a modern characteristic, yet is in keeping with spirit of this flute, making for a good (if not slightly louder) match between the head and the body.
The look of the key construction is of particular note with a very unusual and delightfully pronounced "S" curve on the G# lever, and the graceful shape of the thumb keys , and the Bb right hand lever. The C# lever, on the foot joint, was enlarged to allow for a player with particularly long fingers. Which ever key-maker at Powell created the keys on this lovely instrument, was one with a particularly refined eye for detail and wonderfully rebellious creativity!
In pristine condition, with a new overhaul (traditional pads) by Your Flute Works! Comes in a double case (flute/piccolo form) which allows place for the 2nd headjoint. No dings, dents or scratches.
