Verne Q. Powell #31-1535- SOLD

Verne Q. Powell 3100 series #31-1535, Aurumnite, silver interior and 9K gold exterior, silver mechanism, silver crown, silver rings, inline-G with lower G insert, B-foot with gizmo, solid cherry wood case with case cover

Drawn tone-hole flutes were originally called "Commercial Model" instruments which later evolved into the 3100 series and are presently called the "Handmade Conservatory Model" flute. Powell produced a patented fusion process (Aurumite) for the 3100 series which is made of interlocking layers of 9K gold exterior of the tubing and sterling silver on the interior. Many interesting design ideas were fabricated for the 3100 series such as the absence of "tail kickers" [See the photo of the back side of the foot joint and body]. This allows the tube to vibrate more freely and enables one to easily clean the mechanism. This flute has a lower G insert as well.

The overall sound here is vibrant and much like that of an oboe d'amore, warm, clear, and focused. The angles of the blow-hole are easily accessible and closely contained, allowing for an effortless legato when playing from one octave to the next. Octave intonation is fine. The flute comes with a beautiful hardwood case with neoprene inserts that securely hold the flute in the case, sold only by Powell for these series of instruments.

The seller, who has recently upgraded to another flute, has provided an opportunity to have a bit of gold at a very reasonable cost!
