Verne Q. Powell #2361 - SOLD
Hand Made - Solid Silver flute
Open hole in-line G with original C-foot
and separate B-foot with gizmo
This compelling instrument was made at Powell in 1963 by Edward Almeida. Your Flute Works, in recent times, sold a Powell made by Almeida from this same period and both flutes bear many similar qualities such as a complex 'stereo' production of sound which surrounds the player; and yet, projects a commanding, luminous, ardent tone in all registers and dynamic levels.
Articulation is effortless and responds quickly with the .014 tubing. The headjoint and C-foot are original to the instrument. An additional B-foot with a gizmo was purchased at a later time and this sale includes both footjoints. The octave intonation of the headjoint is superb as is the flexibility for easy dynamic changes and subtle tapers, across a smooth lyric line. After trying modern headjoints on the flute, we feel the original headjoint marries well, or better, than what we have in our shop. Powell #2361 is outstanding for orchestral playing because it offers a huge omnipresent sound that has a distinctive core in soft dynamic levels, and can also project like a much heavier gold flute. The mechanism and physical appearance of the flute is in admirable condition with minimal evidence of use. Slight evidence of very minor dent repair. Recently installed Straubinger pads are in excellent condition. No scratches. Body and keywork in beautiful condition.
