Louis Lot Flute #4072
Louis Lot Flute #4072, Sterling Silver, C .014 tubing thickness, Open Holed, C foot, in-line G, gold lip plate and riser.
The headjoint on this Louis Lot was made in 1886 (#4072) and was purchased at the Louis Lot shop by a Mons. Bulle, who was described as a professor of music in Rambeaux, France. Our hunch is that he later switched to the current Louis Lot body that we are now pleased to have in our inventory. Noteworthy and elaborate engraving is on the barrel, with both Mons. Bulle's initials and the date October 10, 1907. It is evident from extensive research that the body was likely made in 1907, and is most probably a #7xxx or #8000 series instrument. Solid silver, with no seam, it is amongst the early non-seamed tubes made in the Louis Lot shop. Purchased by the consignor in 1968 from a collector in Cleveland, it is not believed to have been altered in any way.
The extraordinarily luminous quality of Louis Lots is quite evident in the sound of this flute. Light yet profound in its delivery, the volume that one can reach is up to the player, as this flute does not hold back! A narrow core to the sound is part of the purity and the mystery that lives within this beautiful spectrum of colors. Makers’ marks are evident on the thumb keys, and on the Bb lever.
Some pitting resulted in minor pin-holes that have been sealed on the headjoint. These don’t seem to compromise the sound in any way, but have reduced the resale price. Though the body comes from a different era than the headjoint (which does not seem to have its original crown) it was a common practice
amongst players who were passionate about Louis Lots to find the perfect match between headjoint and body...a search that continues on in every make of flute and headjoint, up to today!
A valuable addition for a collector, but it is hoped that this flute will be played, as its glorious sound needs to be enjoyed.
Just serviced (Clean/Oil/Adjust) by Your Flute Works/Anne Pollack, it will be sold with a 2 month warranty on adjustments and repairs.
Some very minor dings and scratches...but not bad considering its age!
Price: $6000 negotiable
