Flutemaker from Oskaloosa, Iowa, N. D. Lamberson passed away on September 13, 2005 at the age of 83. Nathaniel "Tip" Lamberson was an innovator and craftsman of the highest order. He made 730 flutes, most are silver, 26 rose gold, and 35 white gold. More rare are 11 flutes made in conjunction with Jack Moore of Elkhart. These are labeled "Moore-Lamberson".
#401 is offered in perfect condition with a C# trill, left hand low B spatula, and a sliding gizmo. The gizmo allows the player to choose which low note to place the gizmo over thus making it possible to play low C# and finger low B with the left hand pinky, making that sometimes awkward skip effortless. The sliding gizmo would also make 4th octave fingerings more accessible by adding the option of fingering the footjoint keys with the left hand when possible.
The maker of this flute has crafted not only a unique mechanism but a truly remarkable sound as well. The tone is meaty and robust. The stalwart projection is unlike any other flute we played. The sound seems to bloom. All registers are well balanced with core and overtones thus providing piquant articulation throughout. The sale includes an additional Powell headjoint which can add another dimension to the array of colors possible with this Lamberson. Also, included is a well made wooden case in perfect condition and customized to fit this flute.
