William S. Haynes Silver Flute #35560
Haynes Silver Flute #35560, Handmade, .014 Tubing Thickness. Pitched at A=440, French style key cups, in-line G, B foot, Bennett Style Headjoint w/ high wall embouchure plate. Comes with additional Haynes Silver headjoint.
The highly esteemed period of the 1950's and 1960's at
the Haynes factory had much to do with the presence
of Harold Bennet (former Co-Principal of the Metropolitan
Opera Orch.) who was instrumental to the development of the
emerging sound of Haynes Flutes.
Haynes #35560 comes from that precise moment when
Haynes was truly in its Golden Era. Built in 1966, this is
an ultra-responsive instrument that plays with power and
command, yet offers the minute detail of extreme subtlety and
a widely vivid spectrum of timbres. Rapid articulation
is easy through each octave, and a beautiful legato
line is easily supported in the very responsive qualities
of this flute.
Originally purchased by Thomas Nyfenger, this flute was sold to a student of his,
who has taken great care of it since that time.
The two headjoints have such different voices to offer,
it is best that the set be kept=2 0together, as a unit. One
plays with the velvety depth, and intense core and great
warmth, so desirable for chamber music (and emblematic of Haynes headjoints).
The other has a broader stroke, perhaps a bit more power, and stands out more
as a soloists headjoint, with somewhat more brilliance. Each of the heads hold their own allure!
The flute holds a great repair track-record, and has proven to be a very stable instrument.
The pads are used, but in excellent condition, and will not need replacing in the foreseeable future.
No dings or dents. The mechanism is in excellent condition,
with the body and heads showing very light
patina, reflecting the careful use it received. This flute
has not been buffed, which only adds to preservation of the era
in which it was built, and the great sound!
