14k White Gold tubing always has an intriguing and focused quality, and this Burkart Headjoint delivers those elements readily. Made with both a silver lip plate and riser, there is amazing flexibility in this 'Burkart Style' head, which is enormously helpful in creating a gracious and authoritative statement musically.

This headjoint was sized up to fit in a .014 silver flute, but done so without leaving any ripple in the tube. A choice of 2 different crowns - one that is silver, the other that is 14k rose gold - adds greatly to the possibilities. The silver brings out a bit more of a 'chiff' in the sound, which might be good for projection in an ensemble setting. The 14k crown brings outs the depth and mystery of the 14k white gold tube, with great clarity. In either case the articulation is unbelievably quick (which Burkart is famous for!) and the pitch is secure in each octave. Dynamic changes are extremely easy, getting from ppp to fff, without having to force in any way.

This combination of metals in this headjoint is no longer made at the Burkart workshop, which adds to its specialness. It is, perhaps, an unusual arrangement of metals, but a huge success in its musical delivery!!
