"Altus Ltd. Model" Silver Flute #5058

Altus Ltd. Model 1807, Serial #5058, Seamed Altus silver tubing, .925 Sterling silver mechanism, soldered tone holes, Open hole, Pointed Key Arms, Split E, Offset G, B footjoint with gizmo, pitched at A=442.

This silver Altus, made in 2001, is the product of the brilliant mind, heart and ears of Louis Lot, as interpreted by a modern flute-maker. An incredibly well-thought-out instrument, it echoes in many, many ways the original Lot tonal concepts. With many details of its construction straight from the Louis Lot design, the seamed tube is no small factor in the powerful, yet extremely nuanced and deeply warm timbres inherent in the flute. Equally, it has often been a detail of the Louis Lot to have a ring on the head joint at the end of the sleeve where it plugs into the body. It is our hunch that this figures largely into the very balanced, and liquid qualities of the sound, from register to register.

Very comfortable in the hands, it has a good and crisp action that assures the player of its reliability. The material used for the springs (called "SP-1") contributes to the lightness and accuracy of the action. The great manageability of this flute in the hands of the player enhances the sound of the music that comes from it...as there is no extra work (or compensating for the mechanism) to be done through difficult passages. It is all 'right there!' The traditional pads (another detail that is consistent to the original Louis Lot flutes) enhances the warmth and organic richness of the sound.

Staccato, legato, ff to ppp...this Altus is the facilitator of true sonic poetry!
