Almeida Flute #144 - SOLD
Edward Almeida Silver Flute #144, Handmade, .014 Tubing Thickness, Pitched at A=440, French style key cups, in-line G, B foot w/ gizmo
An alluring synthesis between warmth, and a quicksilvery liquid
quality, one can think of this Almeida as something of a bridge
between the sound of a Powell Flute, and a Haynes Flute.
Beautifully built, and in many details a reminder of a Powell Flute,
the Almeida holds its own as a strong, clear, and buoyant sound.
An easy connection between the octaves, and a comfortable staccato attack
can be had throughout every part of the range, with a lilting clarity
that projects wonderfully. Well worth trying, as the low price
of this flute in no way reflects its wonderful character!
The connection between Almeida Flutes and Powell Flutes is not
only a part of the history of Mr. Almeida's aesthetic, but is an actual
shared history. As one of the owners of Powell, (after Verne's
retirement), Almeida eventually went on to start his own line
of flutes, that he built with his son, until his death in the '90's.
The pads on this flute are well used, but in good condition. With
the mechanism in perfect condition, and no ding, dents or scratches,
this flute will prove to be a low-maintenance instrument.
