Reginald C. Aitkins #823
R.C. Aitkins #823, Solid Silver
handmade flute, open hole,
in-line G, Low B-foot with
gizmo. Mechanism is
beautifully crafted in
the French style.
Reginald Aitkins was under the employ of the Haynes Co. for over 5 years in the 1970's; as a result, the design of Aitkins' flutes have many qualities that reflect his experience at that famed company. Reginald Aitkins was somewhat of a reclusive man who lived in the countryside of New Hampshire. He never advertised and sold his instruments solely on players' recommendations. This flute was made in Andover, MA and the serial number of 823 means that it was the 3rd flute made in 1982. The original owner played this flute as a freelance artist in New York City and Mexico. The seller parts with it after 26 years of loving care.
The key cups look and feel like a Haynes flute. The .016 tubing and masterfully cut headjoint produce a rich sound. Note the artful design of the rings and smooth design in the low D# key and low C# key.The stringing is lovely, symmetrical, and masterful with a modern scale. Here is a great opportunity to own a handmade, French style, flute at half the cost of the more well known makers.
The flute is in excellent condition with no marks of any kind. The pads are in well used condition but are playing nicely.
No dings, dents, or scratches.
